St. Helens Police Department

Feb. 5 - A sentencing order led to the arrest of Kenneth Clair Burgess, 57, of Scappoose, at the courthouse. Burgess was arrested for fourth-degree assault and interfering with making a report.

Feb. 5 – Officers investigated a theft in the 2200 block of Gable Road that occurred on Dec. 22.

Feb. 6 – A man reported that a hit and run driver crashed into his vehicle while it was parked in front of the 59000 block of Whitetail Avenue.

Feb. 7 – At 2:51 p.m. a woman reported that her tires had been slashed sometime between 11 p.m. on Feb. 6 and 11 a.m. on Feb. 7.

Feb. 8 – An outstanding warrant led to the arrest of Khia De La Cruz, 23, of Battle Ground, Wash. while she was at the Columbia County Rider in the 1100 block of Deer Island Road.

Feb. 9 – At 3:25 p.m. Matthew Baer, 33, of St. Helens, was arrested for third-degree theft, unlawful possession of heroin, unlawful possession of methamphetamine and probation violation following a shoplifting incident at Wal-Mart.

Columbia River Fire and Rescue

Feb. 6 – At 8:29 a.m. firefighters responded to a report of an odor of natural gas in the 63000 block of Columbia River Highway. On arrival crews found NW Natural Gas working on a gas line. The workers had vented the line as part of their project causing the odor.

Feb. 6 - Firefighters responded to the 58000 block of Parkwood Drive in St. Helens for 
a residential fire at 6:20 p.m. On arrival crews found smoke coming out of the front door of the building. A fire in the kitchen was extinguished by firefighters but not before the building was filled with heat and smoke. One occupant was transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire is believed to have been from an item left on top of a hot cooking stove.

Feb. 7 – At 9:06 a.m. a structure fire was reported in the 68000 block of Nicolai Road near Goble. On arrival firefighters found a home with smoke coming from the chimney. Upon further investigation it was determined there was chimney fire that was confined to the chimney. The occupant was advised to have a professional clean and check the chimney before using again.

Feb. 8 - A chimney fire was reported in the 58000 block of Parkwood Drive 
in St. Helens at 8:01 p.m. The occupant of the home was alerted to the fire by a passerby. On arrival of firefighters no smoke, spark or flames were seen from the chimney. Crews checked the attic for fire extension but found none. It appeared the fire burned itself out but the chimney was in need of being cleaned. The occupant was advised to have the chimney cleaned and inspected by a professional before using again.

Feb. 10 – At 6 p.m. Fairgrounds firefighters extinguished a bon fire that was started with gasoline and threatening overhead power lines in the 31000 block of Pittsburg Road.

Columbia County Sheriff’s Office

Feb. 5 – Fraud activity was reported in the 52000 block of Teakwood Drive at 1:13 p.m.

Feb. 5 – At 4:35 p.m. fraud activity was reported in the 35000 block of Pittsburg Road.

Feb. 6 – A domestic in progress was reported in the 57000 block of Columbia River Highway at 8:13 a.m.

Feb. 6 – At 11:12 a.m. theft was reported in the 64000 block of Deer Island Heights.


Feb. 6 – A welfare check in the 54000 block of West Lane Road at 4:47 p.m. led to the arrest of Kyle Landreth, 30, of Scappoose. Landreth was arrested for possession and delivery of a controlled substance.

Feb. 6 – At 5:05 p.m. a theft has just occurred on Highway 30 and Bonneville Drive.


Feb. 6 – Endangering was reported in the 72000 block of Neer City Road at 9:15 p.m.

Feb. 7 – At 12:38 p.m. fraud activity was reported in the 33000 block of Goss Way.

Feb. 7 – While deputies assisted DHS in the 54000 block of Dahlgren Road at 3:09 p.m. they arrested Matthew Loos, 37, of Scappoose. Loos was arrested for assault.


Feb. 7 – A disturbance in progress was reported at 3:17 p.m. in the 28000 block of Melling Drive.

Feb. 7 – At 3:28 p.m. harassment was reported in the 74000 block of Doan Road.


Feb. 8 – A domestic in progress was reported at 2:02 p.m. in the 30000 block of Brownlee Road.

Feb. 8 – A traffic accident with unknown injuries was reported on Meissner Road and Clark Road at 3:24 p.m.


Feb. 8 – A vehicle was reported stolen in the Columbia County area at 6:48 p.m.


Feb. 9 – At 11:05 a.m. theft of services was reported in the 75000 block of Larson Road.

Feb. 10 – At 12:44 p.m. a restraining order was violated 
in the 56000 block of Raasee Lane.


Feb. 10 – Theft was reported in the 57000 block of Adams Road at 1:47 p.m.


Feb. 10 – A suspicious person in progress led to the arrest of Christopher Balestra, 24, of
 St. Helens, at 7:32 p.m. in the 68000 block of Whitney Road. Balestra was arrested on a warrant.


Feb. 11 – A domestic in progress in the 77000 block of Scott Road at 12:34 a.m. led to the arrest of Elijah Stout, 30, of Rainier. Stout was arrested for assault and harassment.


Feb. 11 – At 12:38 p.m. a pursuit was reported on Holbrook Road and Nicolai Road.

Feb. 11 – Littering was reported in the 33000 block of Tide Creek Road at 7:38 p.m.

Scappoose Police Department

Jan. 24 – Police arrested Chien Hershberger, 36, for two outstanding misdemeanor warrants in the intersection of Columbia River Highway and Southwest Havlik Drive.

Jan. 24 - A male juvenile was referred to the Columbia County Juvenile Department for being a minor in possession of tobacco, unlawful delivery of drugs and minor in possession of marijuana following an investigation near Southeast Elm Street and Southeast 6th Street.

Jan. 25 – Following a traffic stop in the 51000 block of Columbia River Highway Police booked and released Angela Parker, 50, for driving while suspended.

Jan. 25 – A suspicious person was contacted by police in the Goodwill parking lot. Following identification of the male, Gerald Olsen, 48, was arrested for two outstanding warrants. One warrant was out of Washington County Circuit Court and the other was an outstanding warrant for St. Helens Municipal Court.

Jan. 26 - Following a traffic stop on Columbia River Highway near Southwest Old Portland Road police impounded the vehicle Danny Brock, 33, was driving. Brock was cited for illegal alteration or display of plates, driving uninsured and driving while suspended.

Jan. 26 - Police responded to an injury crash on Columbia River Highway near Southwest Maple Street.

Jan. 27 - Unlawful entry of a motor vehicle was reported in the 52000 block of Northeast Sawyer Street.

Jan. 27 - Police took a report of identity theft in the 33000 block of East Columbia Avenue.

Jan. 27 - Following a traffic stop in the 51000 block of Columbia River Highway police arrested Russell Kent, 46, for driving under the influence of intoxicants. He was also cited for failure to use lights and driving uninsured.

Jan. 28 - Police assisted the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office in the 200 block of Southeast 3rd Street in Clatskanie.

Jan. 28 - Forgery/Counterfeiting was reported in the 33000 block of Southwest Walnut Street.

Jan. 30 - Police arrested Cody Knight, 27, after a traffic stop near Southwest Meadow Drive and Southwest 4th Street. Following an investigation Knight was arrested for possession of methamphetamines and driving while suspended.

Jan. 30 - Police responded to the 52000 block of Columbia River Highway on a report of a bank robbery.

Jan. 31 – A traffic stop on 
East Columbia Avenue near Northeast 3rd Street led to the arrest of Herbert Apon, 47, for driving under the influence of intoxicants. The vehicle he was driving was impounded from the scene.

Jan. 31 - Police arrested Emily Wing-Hansen, 19, following a traffic stop in the 33000 block of East Columbia Avenue. Wing-Hansen was arrested for false insurance information. She was also cited for driving while suspended and for driving uninsured.

Jan. 31 – At a traffic stop on Columbia River Highway near Crown Zellerbach Road Vernon Bolin, 46, was arrested for probation violation, driving uninsured and driving while suspended. The vehicle was impounded from the scene.

Jan. 31 - Police took a report of a traffic complaint on Columbia River Highway near Southeast Havlik Drive.

Jan. 31 - Casey Austin, 20, was arrested in the 52000 block of Southwest 4th Street for two outstanding misdemeanor warrants.

Feb. 1 - Following a traffic stop on Columbia River Highway near Crown Zellerbach Road police arrested Cameron Pease, 23, for an outstanding warrant out of the St. Helens Municipal Court. Pease was also cited for false information and driving while suspended. The vehicle he was driving was impounded from the scene.

Feb. 1 - An investigation led to the arrested Misty Poff, 33, for failure to perform the duties of a driver following a hit and run in the 51000 block of Southwest Old Portland Road.

Feb. 1 - A traffic stop on Northeast 1st Street near Northeast Williams Street led to the arrest of Allen Stokes, 52, for driving under the influence of intoxicants and refusal to take breath test.

Feb. 1 - James Cooley, 56,
 was arrested at the direction 
of Columbia County Parole 
and Probation for a probation violation following an investigation of domestic violence in a motor vehicle on Columbia River Highway near Southwest E M Watts Road.

Feb. 3 - Police arrested James Smith, 41, following a traffic stop in the 33000 block of Columbia River Highway. Smith was arrested for possession of methamphetamine and false information. He was also cited for driving uninsured.

Feb. 4 - A traffic stop on Columbia River Highway near Southeast High School Way led to the arrest of Angela Wetzel, 41, for driving under the influence of intoxicants. The vehicle she was driving was impounded from the scene.


Feb. 7 - Police responded to a domestic dispute in the 33000 block of Southeast Ray Road.

Feb. 7 - Police impounded the vehicle Scott Werdeman, 35, was driving. Werdeman was cited 
for driving while suspended and driving uninsured.

Feb. 7 - Police responded to the 33000 block of Southeast Ray Road for a domestic disturbance. Following an investigation police arrested Kiree Jensen, 21, for harassment and disorderly conduct.

Feb. 7 - Following a traffic stop on Columbia River Highway near Bonneville Drive police arrested Casey Austin, 21, for felony driving while suspended and failure to obey a traffic control device.

Feb. 9 - Police arrested Melvin Horton, 62, in the 52000 block of Northeast 1st Street for failure to register as a sex offender.


Feb. 9 - Christopher Brecht, 37, was cited for driving uninsured following a traffic stop on Columbia River Highway near Crown Zellerbach Road. The vehicle was impounded.


Feb. 9 - A male juvenile was referred to the Columbia County Juvenile Department after police responded to the Scappoose High School on a report of third-degree criminal mischief, unlawful application of graffiti and unlawful possession of graffiti implement.


Feb. 10 - Police responded to an injury traffic accident on Southwest Havlik Drive near Southwest Old Portland Road.

CCSO Clatskanie Station

Feb. 7 – A vehicle was reported stolen in the 14000 block of River Front Road at 11:16 a.m.


Feb. 7 – At 11:13 p.m. a noise complaint was reported in the 600 block of South Nehalem Street.

Feb. 8 – Theft of services was reported in the 600 block of East Columbia River Highway at 11:19 a.m.

Feb. 8 – At 3:33 p.m. a disturbance in progress was reported in the 500 block of Southwest Bel Air Drive.


Feb. 9 – Burglary was reported at 11:48 a.m. in the 14000 block of Midland District Road.

Rainier Police Department

Feb. 4 - A caller reported suspicious people that had gotten through the fence in the construction area of the Dollar General. They were reportedly wearing dark clothing and hoodies. An officer contacted the people who turned out to be construction workers.

Feb. 4 - Former business partners were having a disagreement related to the business. The parties were separated to keep the peace and they were advised this was a civil issue.

Feb. 4 - Donald Charboneau,
50, of Longview, was cited for 
no valid operator’s license and driving uninsured.


Feb. 4 - Connor O’Black, 22, of Clatskanie, was cited for no valid operator’s license and operating a motor vehicle while using mobile communication device.

Feb. 5 - A family argument, fueled by alcohol and an ensuing physical altercation, ended abruptly when the protective family dog intervened and bit the persons involved.


Feb. 5 - An employee turned in 
a credit card that was left at their establishment. It was returned to the owner.


Feb. 5 - A stray dog was brought in to the police department for his safety. Animal control later picked up the wayward canine.

Feb. 6 - Several calls were received about a couple on 
the bridge that appeared to be fighting. Callers said the male was on the railing and they were concerned for the safety of both parties. Both people were detained for their safety and moved off the bridge. The woman was transported to the hospital with a medical issue and the man was released as no crime had been committed.


Feb. 6 - An officer stood by with medics while they tended to a male subject that was passed out in a car.


Feb. 6 - Zaschia Walker, 27,
 of Rainier, was cited for dog at large.

Feb. 6 - Rafael Ray, 31, of Rainier, was issued a citation 
for driving while suspended and driving uninsured.


Feb. 7 - Officers were dispatched to check on the welfare of a woman that was talking gibberish and possibly having a mental breakdown. When officers talked to the woman, she admitted to hearing voices. A mental health counselor arrived and met with the woman who determined she was not a threat to herself or others.


Feb. 7 - A caller described two men wandering through an auto sales lot attempting to break in vehicles. The subjects fled the scene. The property owner met officers at his lot and he was unable to see damage to any vehicles.


Feb. 8 - A man was advised to stop contacting his ex-wife. He had been sending her unwanted nude photos via text.


Feb. 8 - An employee at a local business was concerned about
 a couple that was looking into vehicles and asking people for money. The business did not want them trespassed, just checked on. No crime had been committed and the couple was sent on their way.


Feb. 8 - Nathan Hayrynen, 30, of Castle Rock, was issued a citation for driving uninsured.


Feb. 8 - A woman said that she received a recorded call stating they were from the US Treasury and they had a warrant for her arrest. She knew it was a scam, but wanted police to be aware.

Feb. 8 - A dog was running at large on West 2nd Street near
 E Street. The cagey canine was able to elude police.


Feb. 8 - A citizen told an officer that a man in a skeleton mask was attempting to flag down traffic on Fern Hill Road. No one was in the area when police arrived.

Feb. 8 - Braeden White, 20, of Rainier, was cited for no valid operator’s license.


Feb. 8 - While on a traffic stop, a passing vehicle failed to maintain a safe distance from an emergency vehicle and struck the patrol car. Damage was minor and the driver, Leonard Scott, 85, of Rainier, was issued a citation for careless driving.


Feb. 8 - Officers assisted Washington State Patrol attempting to locate a vehicle involved in a hit and run.


Feb. 8 - A vehicle that was described as suspicious at the marina was checked on.


Feb. 9 - While on patrol, an officer noticed a vehicle with the engine running and door open at a car lot. The business owner was contacted, who met police at his lot. The vehicle was secured and appeared to be undamaged.


Feb. 9 - An officer responded to a report of a domestic disturbance. The disturbance was only verbal, and the parties agreed to separate for the night.


Feb. 9 - Evan Hadlock, 24, of Rainier, was issued a citation for driving while suspended.


Feb. 10 - A juvenile was reported being harassed over social media.

Feb. 10 - A large crate was removed from the on ramp to Highway 30 from the bridge.


Feb. 10 - An unwanted person was refusing to leave a care facility. The parties were separated and peace was restored.
