Costal Range League basketball regular season play ended on Monday, Feb. 10, with a clash between rivals Rainier and Clatskanie. Clatskanie took home wins in both the boys and girls games and both teams are state tournament bound. For Rainier, it is on to play-in games on Valentines Day.
Tiger Boys take first league title in more than a decade
The Clatskanie Boys Basketball team won its first league title since 2007, downing rival Rainier 47-35 Monday, Feb. 11 at home in its regular season ending game.
The win means a first-round state playoff game at home for the Tigers on Feb. 23.
Rainier will travel to Clatskanie on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 7 p.m. to play a neutral site winner-to-state game against the winner of the Willamina/Warrenton scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 14 at Warrenton.
Tiger Girls achieve regular season perfection
The last time the Clatskanie Girls Basketball program won a league title in 1995, it is likely the players’ parents were in high school.
A 58-26 home win over Rainier on Monday, Feb. 11, sealed a perfect 12-0 run through the regular season Coastal Range League schedule—often with crushing scores over opponents.
Clatskanie will host the first round of the state playoffs on Feb. 23.
Rainier will travel to Willamina on Thursday, Feb. 14 to face the Bulldogs in a winner to state game at 7 p.m.
